In this dangerously sexy novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Find You in the Dark, a straight-laced college student meets a handsome but enigmatic stranger who lures her into an underground club scene, where she finds it difficult to resist temptation

Aubrey Duncan understands loss. She knows what rock bottom looks like, and she is determined to crawl back up to the top after the sudden death of her younger sister. She blames herself for her part in the tragedy, convinced that she could have done something, anything, to help her.

In her effort to gain redemption, Aubrey starts fresh at Longwood University and facilitates an addiction support group, hoping she can support someone else in the way she failed her sister. But what she doesn’t count on is an all-consuming fascination with group member Maxx Demelo, a gorgeous, blond, blue-eyed enigma who hides dark secrets behind a carefully constructed mask. He only reveals what he wants others to see. But Aubrey glimpses another Maxx hidden below the surface—a Maxx who is drowning in his own personal hell.

As Aubrey and Maxx develop an attraction too intense to ignore, he pulls her into the dark underbelly of the city club scene, where she is torn by her desire to save him and an inexplicable urge to join him in his downward spiral. Worst of all, she is beginning to love everything she should run away from—a man who threatens to ignite in her a fire that could burn her alive…

This is a story of true love, stubbornness, secrets and addictions. This book is very well written, both POV are very clear and show what the characters are feeling for one another and the storyline is very interesting. It got me on edge for the days I was reading it and I was left with a huge book hangover afterwards, not to mention that it is a cliffhanger and the next book won’t be published until 2015.

The characters are very complex. Aubrey is a survivor. She lost someone very important for her and with that person, she lost her entire family too. She never opens her heart to anyone, she doesn’t have so much friends. She only wants to help other other people in order to fill the emptiness of her lost. On the other hand, there is Maxx. He has several faces, he shows as a confident guy, a powerful guy, the center of the universe. People follows him, people wants him. But that isn’t the true Maxx. He is lonely. He’s desperate. He’s damage. And he needs help.

Their relationship is the reflexion of themselves. It is good, because they are good, underneath. But it is also bad, because of all the wrong things about them both. I am sure they are good for each other, but they need to love themselves before going to love someone else, and loving each other is the only way they know how to love themselves.

I really want to know how their love story ends. I want to fix them. I want them together. But they need to grow up first. They need their happy ending.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

5 stars

Shayna Thibodeaux and Sebastian York did an stunning job in his audiobook. Sebastian has a beautiful voice and his narration as Maxx was perfect. Sad and heartbreaking. He also was sexy and confiden. He made all Maxx’s facets so well. Shayna’s narration was accurate, her voice and pace were perfect for Aubrey. I could see all the scenes in my head thank to their narrations.
