EXCERPT

He smiled and reached out to hug me. I again tried to swallow around the lump in my throat. After several run-ins with over-zealous fans, I hesitated whenever a stranger tried to hug me. Today I met people that cared so much about each other that handshakes weren’t enough.

Elwood’s voice was shaky. “My whole life I was called a retard. Told I was stupid, worth nothin’. At Caldwell, they would hit me if I didn’t eat fast enough, make my bed right, or clean the bathroom correct. Took my things, laughed at me when I couldn’t speak, and gave me no respect. Hated it there. I’ll never forget Jack. He met me. Shook my hand. Treated me like a man. He saved my life, and I love him.”

I could only nod as Elwood turned and walked up the stairs to the bus. He waved from his seat as it pulled away. I stood, unable to move, as I watched the bus turn down the street. My thoughts were all over the place while everything around me moved in slow motion.

Liz turned toward me, and our eyes met. She looked concerned. “Are you okay? Too much?”

I couldn’t answer her. I grabbed her hand and squeezed it as we walked to the car. It was too much, but it was all the right kind of too much.

REVIEW

BOOK REVIEW: 4 STARS

Oh. My. God. This. Book. I can’t even know where to begin. This book had me on edge for almost 20 hours, i barely slept, barely ate, barely interacted with people, I could only think about keep reading/listening to the audiobook and finish it, because it was real torture. Don’t get me wrong, the good kind of torture (Yeah, I know, I’m a masochist). If the first book was angsty, this one beats it. After We Collided is the definition of roller coaster, the yell-and-cry-till-you-die kinda roller coaster, and if it wasn’t enough, this book is f**king addictive. *sigh*

The book starts right after After finished, when Tess now finds out about the truth of Hardin’s actions and is total and completely heartbroken *me too*. I tried to be as mad as Tess was at Hardin, but, I just couldn’t, because this book has a dual POV *THANK GOD*.

Remember that I said I was as in love with Hardin as Tess in my previous review? Well… I don’t know anymore. I mean, I still love him, he’s been through a lot in his life, he had to witness things that no kid should witness, and that’s the reason why he acts the way he acts, why he doesn’t believe in relationships, and every other fucked up thing he has in his life, nevertheless, he is so f**king selfish *shakes head*. God, he was exasperating. He was so lucky Tessa loves him so much and keeps forgiving every stupid thing he does, but when she did mess it up too, he acted like a saint and all judgemental like he’ve never done a bad thing *sigh* GOD, THAT WAS ANNOYING.

Tessa on the other hand was so contradictory along the book. One moment she was making mature decisions, and the other was acting stupidly, *WHY WHY WHY?* I understand she is a teenager, but WTF? *shakes head*. However, I can’t help to love her too. She is destined to Hardin as much as Hardin is destined to her.

What I loved about this book:

-The relationship of Hardin and his mother. She’s so great, very comprehensive and patient with Hardin. I’m so glad she isn’t so broker after what happened to her. And I really appreciate how she handle things with Tess/Hardin problems.

-Tessa’s job, her boss and coworkers: She managed to stay focus at work, kind of, despite everything that was currently happening to her. Besides, the friends she made at work, were the friends she really needed, not those pricks from the university.

-Harding understanding that he really fucked up with Tessa. I was so frustrated with his selfishness but he understood the magnitude of his actions toward Tessa.

-The interactions between Hardin and Christian’s son, Smith.

What I didn’t like about this book:

-It had so much drama. Ok, I loved it too, but it was too much. I was afraid to put down the book because I didn’t think to be able to resume if I stopped. I mean, you can’t get off of a roller coaster once it has started the ride. That was this book for me.

-Zed. Oh. My. God. What a prick. I totally hate that guy.

-Tessa’s mom. B-I-A-T-C-H!!

The cliffhanger of the second book was more manageable than the first one. What will happen with their future? What will happen with their relationship? What will happen with Tess’s dad? What will happen with Zed? I can’t wait for the third book. December 30th isn’t close enough.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 4 STARS

The dual narration was great. Shane East and Elizabeth Louise did a great job. Elizabeth’s voice is perfect for Tess and her tone and inflections for other characters are flawless, specially the voice she does for Hardin. Shane’s British accent was very suitable for Hardin, and I quickly get used to his voice while I was listening to the audiobook, despite the fact that his voice isn’t for a 21 year old guy.
